Privacy policy

The short version: we collect your email address if you give it to us, we use it to send you what you asked for, and we don’t sell it.

Who we are

The Homeowner Files is a website about what home renovation work costs. You can reach us at hello@thehomeownerfiles.com.

What we collect

  • What you give us. Your email address when you sign up for the free sheet or the newsletter, and anything you write to us in an email.
  • What your browser shares. Things like your IP address, browser type, device and the pages you visit. Our hosting and analytics tools collect this automatically.
  • Cookies. Small files the site and its tools store in your browser to work properly and to count visits.

How we use it

  • To send you the Bid Comparison Sheet and the weekly newsletter.
  • To answer your emails.
  • To see which pages are useful and fix what isn’t working.

Who else handles your information

We use other companies to run the site. They process your information for us and for no other purpose.

  • Kit sends our emails and stores the email list.
  • WordPress.com hosts the site and provides basic visit statistics.
  • Google Analytics counts visits and shows us which pages people read. It uses cookies and collects your device, browser, approximate location and the pages you view. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
  • Google Fonts supplies the typefaces on this site, so your browser connects to Google when a page loads.

If we sell a product, the checkout company handles your payment. We don’t see or store card numbers.

We don’t sell your personal information.

Your choices

  • Every email we send has an unsubscribe link. Use it any time.
  • To see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, email us. We’ll reply and act on it.
  • Your browser lets you block or delete cookies. Some parts of the site may not work without them.

Children

This site is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.
